1862 - John Henry Pepper popularizes his ‘Pepper’s Ghost’ technique utilizing a mirror, light source and a hallway to project a ghostly image of a subject onstage that was physically located in a separate location.

c.1950 - First Portable Quantum Tunneling Device prototype developed by Aperture Science, Inc. It goes off less well than most had hoped.

April, 2007 - Lightstorm and Technoprops develop Simulcam Virtual Camera for James Cameron’s Avatar, marking a historic first for virtual production.

August 22, 2009 - First “live” appearance of Hatsune Miku during Animelo Summer Live in Saitama, Japan.

June 11th, 2011 - GenericLabs is formed by Sky.Light as a non-profit technical theater lab in Norfolk, VA. The lab is formed to explore the potential of show control, augmented reality, spatial audio and physical theater with the mission statement “…to essentialize the use of progressing technology in the relationship between a live performance and its audience.”

August 23, 2011 - Among other projects, GenericLabs performs its first successful Pepper’s Ghost projection illusion as one of many novel effects engineered for “Enron the Musical” at Generic Theater.

April 15, 2012 - Tupak Shakur performs “live” as a “hologram” at Coachella 2012 sparking a short trend for revitalizing performers posthumously.

November 3, 2012 - Hatsune Miku Concert at Nekocon 15 produced by: Lucid Labs, Vokalekt Visions, AniMiku and Warui Neko Entertainment.
